For years, Didier dreamed of making wine from this prestigious vineyard located in Chavignol. His dear friend and mentor, Edmund Vatan, provided the inspiration, and finally in the late 1990s, he had a line on a small, 1/2 hectare parcel in the heart of the vineyard. He bought it and then fought with both the local and AOC authorities for a couple years and finally was granted in 2000 with the rights to plant a small portion of the vineyard each year.
SOIL
The vineyard is very steep and has the perfect balance of clay and chalky limestone.
VITICULTURE
Farmed biodynamically. The domaine employs twice the number of employees than a conventional winery would use for the same acreage. The goal is to produce, on the average, 75% of the yields common to neighboring wineries.
VINIFICATION
Barrel fermented
AGING
Aged mostly in 450 and 600 liter barrels, as well as some of Dagueneau's famous cigar barrels. Designed by the late Didier, these barrels are 350 liters and agressively elongated.
PRODUCTION
Extremely limited
NOTES
2006 saw the first wine produced, though none was exported, and 2007 was the first vintage to be shipped outside of France. Full southern exposure added to the mix of clay and limestone make this a wine that will be generally more forward than Dagueneau's other bottlings from across the river in Pouilly.
