James Suckling: 94 Points

Wow. Fantastic aromas of crushed berries, stones, light raisins and tar. Full-bodied, lightly sweet, with solid grip and extremely fine tannins. It lasts for minutes. Very few declared this as a vintage but Noval decided to make a tiny amount. And they certainly made the right decision. Needs four to five years to come completely together. Reminds me of the excellent but forgotten Noval 1967. This bottle celebrates Noval's 300th anniversary.

Wine Advocate: 92 Points

The 2013 Unfiltered Late Bottled Vintage Port is a field blend from typical grapes like Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cão and Sousão aged for five years in casks. This traditional LBV comes in with 100 grams of sugar and a long cork. Noval is always a source for expressive and traditional LBVs that can age. The power here is more than I saw on some lesser Vintage Ports this issue. The concentration is not always as good but still admirable. The line is blurring a bit these days when you go from quality, traditional LBVs to lesser Vintage Ports. The big advantage for LBVs in those comparisons, and to me the deciding factor, is the price. They are the best values in Port. This is another terrific LBV from Noval?ower, fruit, expressiveness and the ability to age.

Wine Spectator: 91 Points

Ripe and rich, with a supple edge to the mix of crushed blackberry, black currant and black cherry fruit, all wrapped in gentle bittersweet chocolate, licorice snap and Christmas pudding notes. Fresh acidity drives the finish. Well done. Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Cão and Sousão. Drink now through 2027. 6,111 cases made. — JM

Vinous: 89 Points

The 2013 Unfiltered LBV Port has a fresh black cherry, blueberry, vanilla pod and grilled hazelnut bouquet that deserves 30 to 45 minutes in the glass to really blossom. It gains complementary scents of ink and iodine with aeration. The palate is smooth and silky, with a pinch of white pepper spicing up the entry. There is commendable weight here, a slightly gritty texture around the second half with black plum, tangy marmalade and clove towards the harmonious finish. The 2013 can be broached now, although I am certain that it will age over the next decade, perhaps longer, if so desired. 19.5% alcohol
