Lots of dried apple with apricot flesh and peel with some reduction giving it hints of flint on the nose. Full-bodied and powerful with a chewy texture that gives this fantastic structure. It’s layered and tannic. A wine for long term aging.
The Kathryn Hermann Cuvée is an exotic wine featuring ripe guava and grapefruit aromas accented with dried mint, coconut water, and smoky reductive notes. The texture balances a supple, lively acidity with a plump, silky density to produce a wine of great elegance. The grapes come from the old vines in the Chehalem Mountain AVA that are foot-crushed and firmly pressed before fermenting in new Damy casks for 24 months to produce this seductive result. (CC)
The 2021 Chardonnay Kathryn Hermann Cuvée comes from grapes harvested on September 24, and the wine was matured for 23 months in 100% new Billon oak. It has singular aromas reminiscent of cinnamon stick and cashews, which very slowly give way to reveal pure Meyer lemon and Hawaiian flowers. The palate is bursting with gregarious flavors that run the gamut from citrus to honey. Its acidity is electric and adds a shimmery quality to the wine that calls you back on the very long, dynamic finish. Only 136 cases were made. (EB)
