The 2019 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva Sotto Casa is dusty and floral. A whiff of crushed rocks gives way to dried roses, cedar shavings and musky red currants. This is a powerful and complex effort, youthfully dense and poised, with silken textures and masses of tart wild berries underscored by saline minerals and spice. This flexes its tannic muscle through the finale, structured and coating the entire palate, as a beguiling sour citrus note adds contrast. The Sotto Casa is the only Vino Nobile at Boscarelli that blends international varieties with Sangiovese. The vineyard was planted in 1995 and 1996 with 80% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet and 5% Merlot.
