A solid riserva with crushed-berry and walnut aromas with some dried roses, too. It’s medium-bodied with juicy fruit and a long, flavorful finish. Hints of smoke and walnut underneath. Drinkable now, but better in a year or two.

With fruit selected across four parcels of Sangiovese vines, the Castello Monterinaldi 2018 Chianti Classico Riserva offers a pretty, perfumed quality with lots of wild berry, licorice, crushed rose, cured tobacco and some budding tertiary definition. The wine is just beginning to turn toward a more aged character. This production of 24,000 bottles sees 24 months in a combination of tonneaux and botte.

A dark red color, the 2018 Chianti Classico Riserva takes a darker profile with notes of black cherries, sweet baking spices, turned soil, and violets. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it reveals a more noble structure, with ripe, present tannins and a very nice, long finish. This is an impressive wine to enjoy over the next 5-7 years.
