Poached plums, raspberries, licorice, five spice, orange peel and potpourri on the nose. Full-bodied with firm, polished tannins and a plush, ripe palate. Spicy finish. Drink or hold.
A good value is the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape, which is 60% Grenache, 15% each of Syrah and Mourvèdre, and the rest Cinsault that was brought up in old barrels and demi-muids. Darker cherries, tobacco, old leather, and some earthy nuances give way to a medium to full-bodied, mouth-filling, character-filled red ideal for drinking over the coming 8-10 years.
