Jean-Guillaume Bret, who with his brother Jean-Philippe manages this 12 ha domaine, and which buys in another 8 to 10 ha of organically farmed must and/or fruit which they sell under the Bret Brothers label (see herein), enthusiastically noted that "finally, the 2022 growing season gave us some volume! The growing season, other than in Vergisson where there was a June hailstorm, was hot, dry and easy with very little disease pressure. We began picking on the 22nd of August in Juliénas and progressively moved through our vines to the north. Yields were very good if not actually high at around 55 hl/ha on average though it did vary some as Vergisson was obviously less generous. Potential alcohols were good as they mostly came in between 12 and 13% and since the fruit was very clean, we had no issues with either fermentation. Acidities were adequate though it's curious because if you compare the levels to what you typically would expect, they're on the lower side. Yet when you actually taste the wines, it's immediately clear that they do not lack for vibrancy or proper balance. I actually quite like the style of the vintage and it's one that should provide immediate pleasure, yet I see no reason that they shouldn't age well over the medium-term." As is virtually always the case, there are some really lovely wines in the range that are very much worth your interest.
There is a whiff of the exotic to the ripe liqueur-like aromas of pear, citrus and apple. There is very good punch to the markedly mineral-driven medium weight flavors that conclude in an agreeably dry, clean and refreshing finish. This is quite good and especially so for its level. Drink from 2025.
