An eloquent wine, with an evocative plummy fruit underscored with mineral, silky tannins and a lingering, subtle finish. Lafarge owns a hectare in the Clos des Aigrots, planted one-quarter to white and three to Pinot in the red clay soils here. Some of the vines are more than 70 years of age. In 2020, the ripe fruit was destemmed and carefully fermented before ageing mostly in used casks. (CC)
The 2020 Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Aigrots soars from the glass with aromas of wild berries, sweet spices, loamy soil and raw cocoa. Medium to full-bodied, vibrant and intense, it's a deep, concentrated wine framed by velvety tannins and tangy acids. This will be very long lived.
The 2020 Beaune Clos des Aigrots 1er Cru has an airy bouquet, very transparent with redcurrant and wild strawberry fruit, the 15% new oak nearly integrated. Very minerally. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins. This is a strict and mineral driven Beaune, very tensile but with ample weight and concentration on the finish. Excellent. (NM)
