Seductively spicy on the nose, with cracked black pepper, wild oregano, sun dried tomato and pencil shavings, and the palate continues the allure with a savory-sweet tension between sweet ripe cherry tomatoes and sweet chili jam, wild strawberries and bitter dark chocolate, over tactile but satiny tannins.
Released in numbered bottles (which could explain the high price tag), the Michele Satta 2021 Bolgheri Superiore Marianova is a blend of equal parts Syrah and Sangiovese (aged in barrique and amphorae). It delivers medium-plus intensity and bright red and purple fruits that make for a nice break in this highly Bordeaux-centric wine region. The lighter and more accessible concentration of this food-friendly wine includes spicy hints on the close with sweet licorice and grilled herb. Production is 3,300 bottles
