he 2022 Encinado comes from a high-altitude vineyard (at 750 meters above sea level) on slate soils in the zone of Valdecañada planted with old vines on gray slate soils, a cooler place that seems to compensate for the heat from the very warm (and dry) year. The vines were in a very poor state, and when I saw them in the spring of 2024, they looked much better. There's more austerity in the wine here; they fermented it with 100% full clusters in 1,000-liter clay tinaja with a long maceration (a little shorter in this warmer year) and soft extraction, and it matured in 500-liter French oak barrels for 18 months. It has a fine palate and elegant tannins, leaving a cold sensation of chalk, with a medium-bodied mouthfeel. It's elegant, cold, blue and austere. Even in a torrid year... It has a moderate 12.9% alcohol and a silky texture. It's delicious. 980 bottles were filled in February 2024.
