With a higher proportion of old vines than the regular bottling, the 2021 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Girard (blended for the American importer) is a bit richer and more velvety-textured. Black cherries dominate the nose, while the full-bodied palate is impressive for its concentration and length.
The 2021 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Girard is a blend of 88% Grenache, 4% Syrah, 3% Mourvèdre, 3% Cinsaut and 2% Counoise. Swirling the glass displays a fragrant perfume of spice box, ripe red and black cherry, strawberry, mint and a pinch of white pepper. This refined, full-bodied Cuvée Girard is neatly balanced by fresh acidity and framed by polished tannins. It closes with a savory finish.
