This is Southold’s first vintage since relocating from Fredericksburg to Bordeaux, and it’s a strong start. Rouge Clair is a Clairet, a traditional Bordeaux style that sits between red wine and rosé. Deeper and more structured than rosé, lighter and fresher than a red, it’s the bottle you reach for when rosé feels too light but red feels like too much.
Made from 100% Merlot from 40-year-old vines, the wine leans mineral and herbal rather than plush, with bright red fruit notes of strawberry, raspberry, and cherry. The palate is lively and precise, with light acidity and a clean, refreshing finish. Best served cool, not cold.
Fermented for 48 hours in concrete and aged nine months in neutral French oak. 2,740 bottles produced.
