Branco de Santa Cruz shows off godello’s textural similarities with white Burgundy; however, it comes across as more Mediterranean, with aromatic herbs, white flowers, hay, and honeycomb, with good volume and balanced acidity. Viticulture is organic, the grapes are hand-harvested, and wines are made with low intervention. Branco de Santa Cruz is extremely limited.
The 2018 Branco de Santa Cruz was cropped from a cool year with snow and rain when the grapes were picked on the usual dates, starting the 20th of September. It's a field blend of Godello, Treixadura, Doña Blanca, Palomino and other varieties from the village of Santa Cruz at 600 meters in altitude on granite soils. It fermented with indigenous yeasts in foudre and barrique, where it matured for 10 months. It reveals a shy, austere and elegant nose, slowly developing notes of white flowers, herbs and peach with a touch of lanolin, perhaps the sharpest vintage so far, even if they want to avoid the super sharp whites with very high acidity, going for more textured wines. From the following vintage, the white grapes from Falcoeira will not make part of this blend and will be bottled separately. It's a white of finesse. 5,952 bottles were filled in May 2020.
