Nice deep, dark and fruity nose, smells lively and fresh with a touch of herbal aspects, some clear Cabernet markers and soft floral red fruits - perfumed strawberries and raspberries. Nice density, this has a lovely texture, it's not super smooth but you get such excellently presented tannins that are like crushed velvet, you feel the presence but they gently coat the mouth supporting plush strawberry and red cherry fruit with some crushed mint leaves and a liquorice spice kick at the end. I like the power here, it's quiet but definitely there. Pulsing with a lively intensity.
The 2019 No. 3 de Angélus is elegant and silky, with the aromatics of the Cabernets very much in evidence. Crushed flowers, sweet red berry fruit, blood orange, cinnamon and dried flowers all grace this beautifully understated Saint-Émilion that leans into a realm more like Burgundy in its mid-weight structure.
The third wine of the estate, based on 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon brought up in tank and used barrels, the 2019 N3 D'Angélus is a straight-up charmer that's well worth purchasing and drinking. Ripe black cherry, tobacco, damp earth, and spicy notes define the bouquet, and it's medium-bodied and up-front, with soft tannins and outstanding purity. It's a beautiful wine to enjoy over the coming 7-8 years or so.
