Selección de Bosques Batch No. 1 Añejo represents Santanera’s more structured and oak-influenced expression, built on a foundation of organically cultivated blue agave and intentional barrel selection. After distillation, the tequila is aged in carefully sourced French oak barrels crafted from renowned forest cooperages, with custom seasoning and toast profiles designed to complement rather than dominate the agave.
The brand’s agave-first philosophy remains central even in the aged expression. Fully mature agaves and additive-free production ensure that the base spirit retains clarity and structure before entering barrel, allowing the aging process to build complexity without masking origin.
Aromatically, the tequila opens with roasted agave, warm baking spice, and toasted oak. The palate develops into layered notes of vanilla, light caramel, and dried orchard fruit, supported by subtle mineral undertones and integrated wood influence. The texture is polished and rounded, with a composed structure that avoids excessive sweetness or heavy oak saturation.
The finish is long and refined, balancing agave character with restrained barrel depth, making it particularly well-suited for slow sipping and comparative tastings alongside high-quality blancos and reposados.
Selección de Bosques is a gift of meticulous labor, time, patience, and nature’s generosity. Working in close collaboration with renowned French cooperage Nadalié Tonnellerie, the Santanera team selects specific trees—some as old as 400 years—from individual forests around the world, sustainably harvested and purchased at auction from the Office National des Foréts. The wood is processed over 36 months and toasted to unique specifications, ultimately comprising the barrels (dubbed Primera Calidad Bosques, or “premium forest quality”) that will house Santanera’s tequila.
Each batch of Santanera Selección de Bosques is individually numbered and labeled with unique production details, including age statements for both the agave and the barreling. Each label also links to an exclusive site detailing every aspect of the agriculture, process, and certifications behind every element of the batch.
