Nikka Whisky Tasting

Join Jermaine Davis of Hotaling & Co. for a tasting highlighting three distinctive expressions from Nikka Whisky. Founded by Masataka Taketsuru, Nikka has built its reputation around two very different distilleries, Yoichi in coastal Hokkaido and Miyagikyo in the mountains near Sendai, along with its signature Coffey stills. 

The lineup offers a particularly interesting look at those different sides of Nikka, from the rich Coffey Malt to two age-stated single malts. Yoichi is known for its traditional direct coal-fired distillation and robust, smoky character, while Miyagikyo uses indirect steam distillation to create a softer, more elegant and fruit-driven style. 

• Nikka Coffey Malt Whisky – 100% malted barley distilled in Nikka's Coffey stills, an unusual approach since this style of continuous still is typically associated with grain whisky. 
• Nikka Yoichi Single Malt 10 Years Old – An age-stated single malt from Nikka's first distillery in Hokkaido, with the depth, peat and smokiness associated with Yoichi's coal-fired distillation.
• Nikka Miyagikyo Single Malt 10 Years Old – An age-stated expression from Nikka's second distillery, showing Miyagikyo's more elegant, fruity style with a long, gently bittersweet finish. 

This is a great opportunity to taste three very different expressions side by side and see how Nikka's distillation methods and two distillery styles shape the finished whiskies.
