Simon fell in love with Single Malt Scotch while he was in the IT industry and decided to switch careers to follow his passion - and in the process extended his appreciation for all great spirits. He started in the liquor business fifteen years ago at a large chain store, eventually moving to Dallas and running the liquor department at their first and flagship store in this market. He then went to work for a medium sized distributor whose liquor portfolio focused on high quality and artisanal spirits. Pogo’s has been Simon’s work home for past 5 years, as here he can guide guests to the best spirits in all categories. Over the course of his career, Simon has had the opportunity to visit distilleries in Kentucky, Mexico, Guyana, Ireland, and Scotland.

Often spotted roaming through the shop alongside his dad, Ryan Tedder, Charlemagne is Pogo’s most beloved honorary team member. Equal parts curious observer and professional greeter, he’s here for the pats, the attention, and the occasional nap between racks. While his tasting credentials are unofficial, his customer loyalty is unmatched—and no visit is quite complete without a Charlemagne sighting.

My great-grandfather, Harry Sigel, opened Dallas' first liquor store on Elm Street the day after Prohibition was repealed, and was a pillar of the early Dallas Jewish community. My great uncle, Sidney Sigel, later built Sigel’s Liquor Stores into one of the most successful retailers in Texas.
Growing up, Sidney always told me his door was open—it was up to me to walk through it. While I was at UT Austin, I decided to do just that. I walked through his door, learning everything I could from him. He passed away when I was 23 years old, in 1986.
The next year, in 1987, I founded Pogo’s with fabulous partners Jeffrey Gold and his father Stanley. After quickly outgrowing our first location at Walnut Hill and Central Expressway, we moved to Inwood Village in 1990, where Pogo’s found its long-term home. When my partners later stepped away, I continued on, committed to building something lasting.
As the fine-wine world expanded in the U.S., I traveled extensively through the world’s major wine regions, building relationships and developing a focused, thoughtful approach to selection. Today, Pogo’s continues to evolve, guided by the same principles that shaped it from the beginning: knowledge, integrity, and a deep respect for what’s in the bottle. The challenges are different than they were in the beginning, but I still love what I do.
