Pogo's Wine Education Series: Portugal—Old World, New Discoveries

Join us for the third installment of the Pogo’s Wine Education Series as Master Sommelier James Tidwell leads us through one of Europe’s oldest and most distinctive wine cultures.
Portugal is a country deeply rooted in tradition. Home to hundreds of indigenous grape varieties, historic vineyards, ancient winemaking techniques, and dramatically different landscapes, its wines offer an extraordinary opportunity to venture beyond the familiar.
This seated, educational tasting is designed for a deeper exploration of the wines in your glass. Throughout the evening, James will guide guests through nine wines while sharing the history, regions, native grape varieties, and winemaking traditions that make Portugal so fascinating. A selection of cheese and charcuterie will be served alongside the tasting.
Our journey will begin with sparkling Baga from legendary Bairrada producer Luís Pato before moving to a traditional vinho de talha from Alentejo and an expressive white from the Douro. We’ll then experience the remarkable evolution of Bairrada through Luís Pato wines from 2009 and 2000, followed by Touriga Nacional from Alentejo and two serious expressions of the Douro. To finish, we’ll travel offshore to Madeira for a rare D’Oliveiras Terrantez 1988—a fitting conclusion to the evening.
The evening’s lineup includes:
• Luís Pato Baga Vinho Espumante Beiras NV
• Esporão Vinho de Talha Roupeiro Branco 2018
