For a 2010, this is still very fresh indeed, showcasing sour cherries, red plums, citrus, orange peel and grenadine. Very linear and tangy on the palate, but the muscular tannins provide depth and power. Medium-to full-bodied and medium-chewy on the vibrant finish. Beautifully crafted and expertly shaped. Flag-bearer for the modern style of Amarone. Drink now.
Amarone Bertani is made from Corvina and Rondinella grapes grown in the Tenuta Novare over calcareous-marl soils in the heart of the Valpolicella Classica. Out of fashion in the 1990s due to its slender style, today it's returning to favour as the benchmark for elegance in Valpolicella. Thus the 2010 shows a complex nose of cigar leaves, leather and fresh raspberry, with a perfectly balanced and velvety palate.
Drinking Window 2018 - 2040
A graceful, medium- to full-bodied red, with a deep, minerally core of iron and smoke notes, wrapped in aromas and flavors of dried red currant, orange peel, medicinal herbs and anise. Taut tannins firm the finish, which shows more smoke and spice. Drink now through 2026. 8,000 cases made, 1,000 cases imported. — AN
