Priorat Perfection: Cims de Porrera
Six wines from one remarkable village in Priorat. From rare single-vineyard 2008 bottlings to current estate releases, Cims de Porrera tells the story of old-vine Cariñena and Garnacha grown on the steep slate slopes of Porrera — and the families who kept those vineyards alive.
Cims de Porrera: Six Wines That Tell the Story of One Priorat Village
Priorat is often described in terms of power — steep slopes, dark fruit, and slate-driven intensity. But in the village of Porrera, the story runs deeper than style. It’s about vineyards that survived when many others didn’t.
This lineup from Cims de Porrera offers a rare opportunity to explore that story from two angles: three historic single-vineyard bottlings from 2008, and three estate wines that carry the same philosophy forward today.

A Cooperative Model Rooted in Fairness
Cims de Porrera operates out of the agricultural cooperative in Porrera and is managed by the Pérez Ovejero family. The project was founded in the 1990s with a clear objective: support local growers, pay fair prices for grapes, and preserve the old vineyards that define the region.
Today, 54 hectares of steep, slate-covered vineyards are farmed by 15 local wine-growing families. Many of the vines are more than 70 years old. Some are significantly older. Slopes can reach 60%, yields are naturally low, and farming is entirely hands-on.
This isn’t large-scale, estate-polished Priorat. It’s collaborative, village-driven winemaking built on continuity.

The Finques de Cims Bottlings (2008): Single-Vineyard Priorat with Bottle Age
The 2008 vintage Finques bottlings are the heart of this story — individual vineyard wines bottled separately to honor specific sites around Porrera.
Les Sentius d’en Joan Bta. Domenech 2008
Planted in 1950 and sitting at roughly 630 meters above sea level, Les Sentius is one of the highest vineyard sites in Priorat. Rooted in llicorella slate and farmed by the Domènech family for generations, this west-facing amphitheater is planted entirely to old-vine Cariñena. Elevation and constant airflow slow ripening, preserving freshness and structure in a wine built for longevity.
Trosset de l’Adolf 2008
Located in Els Solans at approximately 450 meters and facing south, Trosset de l’Adolf is a warmer site replanted by hand around 1930 after phylloxera. Farmed continuously by the same family, this vineyard reflects sunlight, slope, and generational perseverance. Planted primarily to Cariñena with Garnacha, it represents a deeply personal expression of place.
Pastelero 2008
Situated in La Coma at roughly 400 meters, Pastelero includes vines approaching a century in age. Planted to Cariñena, Garnacha, and Picapoll on steep, rocky, west-facing slopes, the vineyard reflects an earlier era of farming in Porrera — when old vines were worked for necessity rather than prestige. Bottled separately, it stands as a testament to what survived.
Single-vineyard Priorat from 2008 is not something that surfaces often — particularly three distinct sites from the same village.
The Estate Wines: The Ongoing Expression of Porrera
Alongside the mature Finques wines, these estate bottlings show how the philosophy continues today.
Vi de Vila Porrera Blanco 2022
A village-level white sourced entirely from vineyards within Porrera and rooted in llicorella slate. The blend of Garnacha Blanca, Picapoll Blanc, Pedro Ximénez, and Macabeu ferments partly in cement and partly in new barrels before aging for nine months in cement vats and glass demijohns. Fresh, textural, and mineral-driven, it offers a compelling white expression of a red-dominant region.
Priorat Classic 2016
Built around Cariñena and Garnacha grown on slate soils, the Classic delivers layered red and dark fruit with savory notes and firm structure. With time in bottle, the 2016 has settled into a composed, balanced expression of traditional Priorat.
Tinto Vi de Vila Porrera 2020
A village red centered on Cariñena and Garnacha, offering vibrant red fruit, spice, and the mineral tension that defines Porrera. Fresh acidity and ripe tannins make it especially versatile at the table.
For anyone curious about Priorat beyond the headlines, this is a meaningful place to start — or to go deeper.
