June 22nd Picks: Two Delicious Summer Whites
Zack Whitaker’s Pick
Ziaboga 'Askizu Menia Vineyard' Txakoli 2025
If you're ready to beat the summer heat, this is the perfect wine for you! Made from the native grape Hondarrabi Zuri, this single vineyard wine is grown right on the Atlantic coast in the Basque country of Spain. After going through a cool fermentation, this wine is bottled without aging in order to preserve the vibrant freshness. A touch of natural effervescence, true to the classic Txakoli style, gives it an irresistible energy, enhancing the crisp citrus, green apple, and saline minerality that define this exhilarating, thirst-quenching, classic Basque wine. Pair with seafood, olives, charcuterie, and a day at the pool!

Luigi Maffini Pietraincatenata Fiano 2023
This is one of my favorite white wines for the summer. Three generations of the Maffini family have been producing this fabulous Fiano. It's fermented in oak barrels and then aged in oak for a short period of 4 months in oak as well. The resulting wine is soft, fresh and intense with minerality. You will find exotic fruits and dried apricots on the nose. It is persistent on the palate with notes of fresh citrus, toasted almonds and wild flowers. Enjoy with fresh grilled seafood or an heirloom tomato and feta salad.
