Fermented in a mix of stainless steel drums and older oak barrels, the 2023 Sauvignon Blanc is a beauty, based on Musqué-clone budwood from Arroyo Seco. Spicy and herbal, with a pungent hint of boxwood, it also delivers notes of tangerine and grapefruit on the nose. In the mouth, the wine is medium to full-bodied, plump and opulent, with a creamy mouthfeel but then tightens up to offer refreshing citrus flavors on the lingering finish. With about one-third of the volume going through malolactic fermentation and no bâtonnage (it does age on the gross lees), there's a lovely sense of balance from start to finish

Producer's Notes: Sauvignon Blanc joined the Hyde portfolio in 2018. This wine is reminiscent of vacation in a glass with its vibrant nose of peach & pineapple followed by great acidity and minerality on the palate.

The 2023 vintage brought more rainfall than the previous year giving the vines an advantage for the coming growing season. The higher levels of precipitation along with cold weather during the winter resulted in a delay in bud break. Spring brought plentiful showers and cold temperatures, contributing to a slow, but healthy vine development. The abundant sunshine and mild warm temperatures that summer brought Los Carneros induced a long and steady maturation stage thus optimizing the quality of grapes. These growing conditions fostered wines with aromatic intensity, extraction, and incredible balance.

Producer Story

Founded by Larry Hyde in 1979, Hyde Vineyards is located in the heart of Napa Valley's Carneros region. The vineyard has long been hailed as a grand cru caliber site, primarily known for its Pinot Noir and Chardonnay fruit, which has been used by some highly acclaimed wine producers in both Napa and Sonoma counties. After nearly 30 years of providing an extraordinary quality of grapes to clients exclusively, Larry debuted his own small-lot Pinot Noir wine project and officially opened the doors to his estate winery shortly after. Today, Hyde Vineyards continues to work with over 35 wine brands providing exceptional fruit while Hyde Vineyards Estate produces small-lot estate-grown wines.

Larry is a pioneer in a region that became California’s second AVA, Los Carneros, Napa Valley.
