(93-95) The 2023 Chablis 1er Cru Séchet, from a small parcel within Vaillons where hard limestone lies close to the surface, is a considerable success and quite distinct from a typical Vaillons. Offering notes of green apples, white flowers and oyster shell, it’s medium-bodied, with racy acidity, superb intensity and tension and a long, strikingly chalky finish. This comes warmly recommended and stands as the finest interpretation of this climat. Vincent Dauvissat is one of the greatest vignerons in France, producing some of the most soulful wines not just in Chablis but across the entire Burgundy region. Dauvissat, who once considered a career as a shepherd, ultimately became a vigneron and, though technically retired, remains a vital presence at his eponymous domaine. His personality, both meditative and meticulous, is reflected in his wines, which, provided the cork holds well, are incredibly long-lived.(KK)

This premier cru (spelled 'Secher' elsewhere) is something of a speciality for Dauvissat, who owns 0.80ha in the lieu-dit, which forms part of the large Vaillons umbrella appellation on the left bank of the Serein. In Dauvissat's hands it gives a wine of great elegance, with slightly exotic notes of passion fruit and tamarind, yet there is rewarding richness, density, and the supple texture that hints that it will only improve with age.(CC)

The 2023 Chablis “Séchet” from Domaine Dauvissat is absolutely outstanding. The wine comes in at an even thirteen percent and deliver superb precision on both the nose and palate. The bouquet is pure and complex, offering up scents of lemon, pear, a fine base of chalky minerality, a touch of oyster shell, citrus zest, white flowers and a gentle framing of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and racy, with superb depth at the core, excellent mineral drive and cut, lovely balance and a long, still youthfully reserved and classy finish. This may just be a bit more reserved today due to its bottling ten days ago, but in any case, it would still make sense to give it at least a handful of years in the cellar to allow its secondary layers of complexity to emerge. 2028-2060+.
