Faccia Brutto Carciofo Amaro (750ml)

Made in Brooklyn, New York, by Faccia Brutto Spirits, Carciofo is the producer’s take on the Italian tradition of artichoke-based amaro. It is made with 19 herbs and botanicals in a neutral grain spirit produced in Buffalo, New York. Fresh artichokes from California’s Central Coast are macerated for 10 days alongside botanicals including cinnamon, allspice and dandelion root, while lemon peel and bay leaf round out the blend. It is sweetened with organic cane sugar.

Dark, earthy and herbaceous, the profile leads with vegetal artichoke character followed by warm baking spice and a deep, savory bitterness. The producer describes its sweetness and bitterness as relatively restrained, giving the liqueur depth without becoming overly sweet or aggressively bitter. Enjoy it neat after dinner, over ice with citrus, or as the bitter backbone of cocktails such as a Bitter Giuseppe or Little Italy.
