(92-94) A fuller and possibly brighter purple. First picked. There is a direct energy here with some blueberry fruit, this is evidently ripe but has retained its shape very well, with just a few tannins at the finish still to resolve. From another barrel much livelier, with redder fruit. This will deliver. Drink from 2030-2036. Tasted Nov 2024.

(91-93) The 2023 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Clos de la Bussière offers up aromas of cherries, raspberries and plums, along with hints of baking chocolate and spices. Medium to full-bodied, lively and layered, it's rich and charming, with a rather open, gourmand profile for a wine that's sometimes among Roumier's more structured bottlings. At 13.8%, this is one of the higher alcohol wines in the range, as is often the case. After producing a ripe, muscular trio in 2018, 2019 and 2020, Roumier seems to have reposted with a quintessentially elegant trio in the form of 2021, 2022 and now 2023. Alcohol levels range from 13.3% to 13.8%, much as in 2022; and, as in 2022, while Roumier tries to delay his malolactic fermentations, he didn't succeed this year, meaning that the wines were very easy to taste when I visited. Harvest began on September 13, and yields were good, much the same as in 1999, even though the vineyards are on average older. Of the 2021, 2022 and 2023 trio, 2023 appears to be the softest and most giving, and the wines will offer a broad drinking window.(WK)

(91-93) The 2023 Morey-Saint-Denis Clos de la Bussière 1er Cru has a clean and precise bouquet, with forest floor and hints of ceps infusing the dark berry fruit. It's a little introverted at first but it unfolds nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and gentle grip. It's quite saline in the mouth with a precise, almost understated finish. This is a classy Morey Saint-Denis from Roumier.(NM)

(90-92) Note: a 2.59 ha monopole of the domaine. A slightly riper combination reflects notes of a variety of dark berries, warm earth and just enough wood to mention. The generously proportioned, lavishly rich and suave medium weight flavors that exhibit fine length on the sappy and lingering finale where the only nit is a touch of warmth. This promising effort is firm enough to age well over the next decade but not so compact that it couldn't be enjoyed on the younger side.
