Nikka Miyagikyo Single Malt Aromatic Yeast (750ml)

Released in 2022 as part of Nikka’s limited-edition Discovery Series, Miyagikyo Aromatic Yeast explores the influence that different yeast strains can have on whisky’s aroma and flavor. It was the second release in the series and was created alongside Yoichi Aromatic Yeast as an experimental expression highlighting fermentation as an important part of Nikka’s whisky making.

The whisky builds on Miyagikyo’s naturally elegant, fruit-driven house style, which is produced using indirect steam distillation at the Sendai Miyagikyo Distillery. For this release, Nikka selected whiskies made with distinctive aromatic yeast strains to emphasize bright, expressive fruit character. The result is particularly fragrant and lively, with tropical and orchard-fruit notes, gentle malt sweetness and a soft, rounded texture.

A limited release that offers a different perspective on Miyagikyo, Aromatic Yeast is an especially interesting bottle for collectors and Japanese whisky drinkers interested in how fermentation can shape the character of a single malt. Nikka’s official history confirms the expression debuted in 2022, and it received a Gold Medal at the 2023 International Spirits Challenge.
