Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Port 2018 comes from one of the Douro’s historic estates, situated in the remote Douro Superior and owned by the Symington family. Vesuvio is particularly notable for maintaining the traditional practice of foot-treading its grapes in granite lagares, even as modern technology has become common throughout the region.

The 2018 is led by 54% Touriga Nacional, with Touriga Franca and Alicante Bouschet together accounting for another 40%, plus small amounts of other traditional varieties. It is a powerful, concentrated Vintage Port, packed with ripe blackberry, black plum and dark cherry fruit alongside floral, spice and mineral notes. The palate combines substantial depth and richness with firm tannic structure and freshness, leading to a long, persistent finish.

Built for extended bottle aging, this is a serious Vintage Port with plenty of development ahead. If enjoyed young, decant thoroughly and serve alongside blue cheese, dark chocolate or on its own after dinner.
